Bampton Heritage & Visitor Centre
What we aim to do in the centre is to educate residents and visitors of all ages in the town’s rich heritage. We also serve as the local Tourist Information Point and use our local knowledge, leaflets and internet access to help satisfy the needs of visitors to the area.
| We have various local artefacts on display, often relating to a specific theme, and an amazing 8ft model of the town’s old railway station which proves extremely popular with visitors of all ages. |

| There are well designed information boards telling the history of Bampton and several fascinating short videos to watch (and some to buy) on subjects such as the Exe Valley Railway and Bampton Church. There is also a collection of old photographs of Bampton dating from 1880 to 1960 and an album of photographs of many Bampton people from the early 1900’s onwards. |

| For children and families, we have a computer-based Bampton quiz game, a family town trail, dressing up clothes, touch and feel box, word search games and more. There is also a mega-sized jigsaw! |

| We have a small retail area where we sell local history books, walks books and maps. We also sell local gifts, postcards and Bampton mugs. |

| We run Guided Town Trails throughout the year and additional dates can be offered to visiting groups and organisations by arrangement. For those who can’t get about, there is a Virtual Bampton Town Trail available to watch on our video player or on YouTube. There is now a Family Town Trail Quiz - see above. |

| If you’re interested in tracing details of your family history in the Bampton area, we have specially trained volunteers to assist you. With the help of local historians too, we will help you to discover more about your ancestors. In 2019 we embarked upon a project called 'Bampton: Our Buildings' which collected information about the most iconic and interesting buildings in our town. The results are now on a set of portable display boards, shown here in the Heritage Centre in the church, but which will be touring local venues such as the Tiverton Museum.
